ABSTRACT

Abstract Aquatic insect fauna remains an important tool for bio indication of environmental disturbance, while maintaining a healthy aquatic system. The purpose of the study was to document and to identify the diversity and distribution patterns of aquatic insect, a highly ignored aspect from the Qatar. Following the standard procedures, the samples were collected from aquatic habitats during the period October 2015 to May 2017 on monthly basis. A total of 11,287 individuals, belonging to 6 orders were captured. Dipterans were the abundant with the percentages of 71.01 (n=8,015), while the lowest percentage was observed for Coleoptera 0.04 (n=05). Twelve insects families were identified, among these five were reported under Diptera, followed by Hemiptera (03), while Coleoptera, Tricoptera, Odonata, and Ephemeroptera were represented by single families. Among the selected localities, Dipterans were collected from 10 stations, followed by Hemiptera (9), Coleoptera (4), Odonota (4), Ephemeroptera (3) and Trichoptera (1) respectively. Among the water bodies samples, streams were the most preferred habitats (n=2,767), while drinking water pools were the least (27). Moreover, the highest Simpson diversity index of 1.48 and lowest of 0.47 was recorded for flooded sewage pool and plastic containers respectively, while the low evenness values were observed for ponds, and less than 1 Margalefs diversity values were seen for all habitats. This study documents the patterns of the diversity and distribution of aquatic insects, and provides a baseline for the future studies from Qatar.


Resumo A fauna aquática de insetos continua sendo uma ferramenta importante para a bioindicação de distúrbios ambientais, ao mesmo tempo em que mantém um sistema aquático saudável. O objetivo do estudo foi documentar e identificar a diversidade e os padrões de distribuição dos insetos aquáticos, um aspecto altamente ignorado no Catar. Seguindo os procedimentos padrão, as amostras foram coletadas em hábitats aquáticos durante o período de outubro de 2015 a maio de 2017, mensalmente. Um total de 11.287 indivíduos, pertencentes a seis ordens, foram capturados. Dípteros foram os mais abundantes, com as porcentagens de 71,01 (n = 8.015), enquanto a menor porcentagem foi observada para Coleópteros 0,04 (n = 05). Doze famílias de insetos foram identificadas, destas, cinco foram registradas sob Diptera, seguido por Hemiptera (03), enquanto Coleoptera, Tricoptera, Odonata e Ephemeroptera foram representados por famílias únicas. Dentre as localidades selecionadas, Dipterans foram coletados em 10 estações, seguidos por Hemiptera (9), Coleoptera (4), Odonota (4), Ephemeroptera (3) e Trichoptera (1), respectivamente. Entre as amostras de corpos d'água, os riachos foram os hábitats mais preferidos (n = 2.767), enquanto as piscinas de água potável foram os menos (27). Além disso, o maior índice de diversidade de Simpson de 1,48 e o menor de 0,47 foi registrado para piscina de esgoto inundada e recipientes de plástico, respectivamente, enquanto os valores de baixa uniformidade foram observados para lagoas e menos de 1 valores de diversidade de Margalef foram observados para todos os hábitats. Este estudo documenta os padrões de diversidade e distribuição de insetos aquáticos e fornece uma linha de base para os estudos futuros do Catar.

ABSTRACT

La Entomología Forense (EF) es una rama de las ciencias médico-legales (Ortloff et al. 2012), que utiliza como herramienta clave a insectos y otros artrópodos que interactúan con un cuerpo en descomposición (Gennard, 2007). El presente estudio se basó en un diseño observacional descriptivo de tipo poblacional, en el que se evaluó la diversidad de dípteros de la familia Calliphoridae y Muscidae en la parroquia rural de Posorja, Guayaquil. En el proceso experimental en los biomodelos A y B, se obtuvo que las temperaturas mínimas diarias presentaron un promedio de 21 °C (entre 20 °C y 22 °C) en lo que respecta a las temperaturas máximas diarias presentaron un promedio de 29,50 °C (entre 26 y 31 °C). En ambos biomodelos experimentales A y B, la exposición directa a los rayos solares y el espacio de liberación abierto contribuyo con el desarrollo de los cambios post mortem de descomposición cadavérica, como son el cromatismo, hinchado, licuefacción y reducción. A la par, de la ocurrencia de la sucesión de dípteros de interés criminalisticos, pertenecientes a las familias Calliphoridae y Muscidae. La importancia de de este acercamiento a la fauna de interés forense dentro de la provincia de Posorja, se muestra en el abanico de oportunidades que abre, con miras a la futura incorporación de la entomología forense en investigaciones criminalísticas en casos de homicidios y negligencias. Sin embargo, todavía eisten numerosas dificultades dificultades para este tipo de estudio en el Ecuador, por lo que se propone divulgar la escala estacional y espacial de de estas investigaciones, a través de convenios que permitan replicarlos en diversas partes del país en distintos ecosistemas y bajo distintas condiciones climáticas(AU)


Forensic Entomology (PE) is a branch of the medico-legal sciences (Ortloff et al. 2012), which uses insects and other arthropods that interact with a decomposing body as a key tool (Gennard, 2007). The present study was based on a descriptive observational design of a population type, in which the diversity of diptera of the Calliphoridae and Muscidae families in the rural parish of Posorja, Guayaquil was evaluated. In the experimental process in biomodels A and B, it was obtained that the minimum daily temperatures presented an average of 21 ° C (between 20 ° C and 22 ° C) with regard to the maximum daily temperatures presented an average of 29, 50 ° C (between 26 and 31 ° C). In both experimental biomodels A and B, direct exposure to sunlight and the open release space contributed to the development of post-mortem changes in cadaveric decomposition, such as chromaticism, swelling, liquefaction and reduction. At the same time, the occurrence of the succession of diptera of criminalistic interest, belonging to the Calliphoridae and Muscidae families. The importance of this approach to the fauna of forensic interest within the province of Posorja is shown in the range of opportunities that it opens up, with a view to the future incorporation of forensic entomology in criminal investigations in cases of homicides and negligence. However, there are still numerous difficulties for this type of study in Ecuador, so it is proposed to disclose the seasonal and spatial scale of these investigations, through agreements that allow replication in different parts of the country in different ecosystems and under different weather conditions(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introducción: La Isla del Coco es una isla oceánica que, a pesar de su reconocida biodiversidad, ha sido poco estudiada en cuanto a su entomofauna, particularmente del Orden Diptera. Objetivo: Presentar la diversidad de "moscas" que alberga la Colección de Artrópodos del Museo Nacional de Costa Rica (MNCR), proveniente de recolectadas realizadas entre 1994-2013. Métodos: Se hizo un análisis de los 2129 registros físicos y digitales de Specify del MNCR y otras bases de datos, así como de la literatura. Resultados: Dentro del MNCR se encuentran 30 familias, 43géneros y28 especies; trabajo de determinación taxonómica realizado por un conjunto demás de 30 expertos en el grupo. Existe material tanto en la colección del MNCR y así como en Museo de Zoología de la Universidad de Costa Rica y otras instituciones fuera del país. Conclusiones: El esfuerzo de muestreo se ha concentrado solamente en un sector de la isla, por lo que se proyecta una diversidad mayor si se amplían los esfuerzos. Es fundamental mantener esfuerzos planificados en el ámbito de la investigación taxonómica de la fauna entomológica, que permitan ampliar el conocimiento de la diversidad presente.


Introduction: Isla del Coco National Park is an oceanic island of great interest and scientific value; however, little is known about its entomological fauna, particularly for the Order Diptera. Objective: To present the diversity of "flies" housed in the collection of arthropods of the National Museum of Costa Rica (MNCR), from expeditions made to the island between 1994 and 2013. Methods: Analyzed the 2 129 physical and digital records from Specify and other data bases, as well as the literature. Results: A total of 30 families, 43 genera and 28 species are represented in the MNCR, from a taxonomic determination work carried out by a group of more than 30 experts. There is material both in the Diptera collection of the MNCR and the MZUCR (Museum of Zoology, University of Costa Rica), as well as in institutions outside the country. Conclusion: The sampling effort has been concentrated in only one sector of the island; therefore, diversity is expected to be greater. It is essential to maintain research taxonomic efforts of the entomological fauna to expand the knowledge of the diversity present in such a valuable resource, Heritage of Humanity: Isla del Coco.

ABSTRACT

Introducción: Los colémbolos epiedáficos participan en una amplia variedad de servicios ecosistémicos relacionados con la disponibilidad de nutrientes para las plantas, el almacenamiento y la regulación del agua, la estabilidad del suelo y el control de la humedad y el pH necesarios para la fertilidad de los suelos. Por esta razón, los colémbolos epiedáficos se consideran como organismos sensibles a los cambios generados en el uso del suelo. Objetivo: Comparar la fauna epiedáfica de dos tipos de vegetación introducida: pastos y plantaciones de Eucalyptus pellita en una región de los Llanos Orientales de Colombia. Métodos: La recolección de los colémbolos se realizó en áreas con cobertura de pastos introducidos y áreas forestadas de diferentes edades, con trampas pitfall que contenían Propilenglicol al 40 % como preservante; durante la época seca y la época húmeda. Se comparó la riqueza efectiva de géneros y se explicó su composición en función de 14 variables ambientales y dasométricas mediante un análisis de redundancia (RDA). Resultados: La colembofauna estuvo compuesta por Entomobryomorpha (62 %), Poduromorpha (17 %) y Symphypleona (21.1 %) representados en 12 familias y 26 géneros. La riqueza efectiva de géneros fue significativamente mayor en los pastos que en las plantaciones de E. pellita, pero la abundancia no disminuye significativamente, con excepción de las plantaciones jóvenes durante la época seca. El ensamblaje de colémbolos observados en el área se relacionó principalmente con el desarrollo de cobertura forestal, la disponibilidad de materia orgánica alrededor de la trampa y el contenido de Nitrógeno en el suelo. Conclusiones: Las áreas forestadas permitieron un ensamblaje de colémbolos, menos diverso que las pasturas, pero compuesto tanto por especies adaptadas a áreas abiertas, como de las áreas naturales boscosas circundantes.


Introduction: Epiedaphic springtails participate in a wide variety of services linked to plant nutrient availability, water storage and regulation, soil stability and control of moisture and pH necessary for soil fertility. Therefore, epiedaphic springtails are sensitive to soil use change. Objective: To compare diversity of epiedaphic springtails in two types of introduced vegetation: pastures and forestations of Eucalyptus pellita in a region of the Colombian eastern plans. Methods: Springtails were collected from introduced pastures and young, middle and mature forested areas of E. pellita, using pitfall traps containing Propylene Glycol (40 %) as preservative, during one dry and one wet season. Alfa and Beta diversity were compared at genus level, and community composition was explained using a set of 14 environmental variables through a redundancy analysis (RDA). Results: Epiedaphic springtails were represented by Entomobryomorpha (62 %), Poduromorpha (17 %) and Symphypleona (21.1 %), 12 families and 26 genera. Effective number of Collembola genera was lower in plantations but abundance was different only in young plantations during dry season. The variables related to forest coverage, soil organic matter coverage and Nitrogen better explained the observed genera assemblage. Conclusions: Forest plantations allowed an assembly of springtails less diverse than in pastures; but comprised both types of genera, those proper of open areas and those from surrounding natural wooded areas.

Resumen:La Entomología Forense es una ciencia que implica el estudio de las especies antropofágicas que practican un ciclo vital en el cadáver. Contribuye en la determinación del Intervalo posmortem. Los insectos de importancia forense que se estudiaron pertenecen a la orden Dípteros y Coleópteros. En el estudio realizado en el municipio de Pucarani, ubicado en la provinciaLos Andes del Departamento La Paz a 3852 m.s.n.m. entre otoño e invierno, se obtuvo dos ejemplares de cerdo S. scrofa, en dos ambientes: abierto (cerdo A) y cerrado: (cerdo B). Se identificó 339 especímenes entre dípteros y coleópteros. No se encontraron diferencias significativas en la sucesión de entomofauna entre ambos ambientes, sin embargo predominó la familia Fannide sp. en el lugar cerrado por ser un ambiente húmedo. Los dípteros de mayor importancia son: Sarconesia Chlorogaster, Clorobrachycoma splendida, que pertenecen a la familia Calliphoridae, que se mantuvo en constante actividaden su estadio larval y su forma adulta en los cuatro estados de descomposición a temperaturas de 14 - 16°C, humedad relativa de 30%; no se encontró a Calliphora nigribasis en la descomposición avanzada; Sarconesiopsis magellánica solo se presenta en la etapa Fresco. Entre los Coleópteros: Oxelitrum apicale apareció desde la etapa hinchado. La sucesión de entomofauna cadavérica y su particularidad en cada etapa de descomposición, es el elemento que nos ayudaría a determinar el IPM, que dependerá de las condiciones climáticas a gran altitud como Bolivia.


Abstract:Forensic entomology is a science that involves the study of the cannibalistic species that plays a vital cycle in the body. It helps to determinate the postmortem interval. Insects with forensic importance that were studied belong to the order Diptera and Coleoptera. In the study conducted in the Municipality of Pucarani, located in the province of Los Andes La Paz Department at 3852 meters between autumn and winter, two copies of pork S. scrofa was obtained in two environments: open (pork A), closed (pig B). 339 specimens between Diptera and Coleoptera were identified. No significant differences were found in the entomofauna sequence between the two environments, however the Fannide sp. In the place closed for being a humid environment. The most important dipterans are: Sarconesia Chlorogaster, Clorobrachycoma splendida, belonging to the family Calliphoridae, which remained in constant activity in its larval stage and its adult form in the four decaying states at temperatures of 14 - 16 ° C, humidity Relative to 30%; Calliphora nigribasis was not found in advanced decomposition; Magellanic sarconesiopsis only occurs in the Fresco stage. Among the Coleoptera: Oxelitrum apicale appeared from the swollen stage. The succession of cadaveric entomofauna and its particularity in each stage of decomposition is the element that would help us determine the MPI, which will depend on high altitude climatic conditions like Bolivia.

ABSTRACT

Gorgona is a Colombian continental island that biogeographically belongs in the Choco region. This work constitutes a first approximation to the aquatic insects, with emphasis in Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera: distribution, ecology, and associations to the continental mainland. Between October 2010 and June 2011, immature and adult specimens were collected in five streams of the island´s Western sector using entomological nets, Malaise traps, and light traps. A total of nine orders, 28 families, 39 genera and 16 species of aquatic insects were found. New geographical records for Gorgona include: Dytiscidae (Coleoptera), Zelusia, Farrodes and Terpides (Ephemeroptera), Leucotrichia and Wormaldia (Trichoptera), Laccodytes, Neoelmis and Pheneps (Coleoptera), Maruina and Limonia (Diptera). As part of this study, four new species for each, Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera, were found. Leptohyphes jodiannae, L. maculatus and Hagenulopsis esmeralda are recorded for the first time for Colombia. Farrodes caribbianus, F. roundsi, Hagenulopsis zunigae, Zelusia principalis and Anacroneuria choco are reported for the first time for the National Park. The high abundance of families, genera, and species is similar to that of low order streams in the tropic mainland, particularly those associated to the Choco bio-geographical province. Rev. Biol. Este trabajo constituye la primera aproximación al conocimiento de las especies que caracterizan la entomofauna acuática del PNN Gorgona, con énfasis en Ephemeroptera y Plecoptera, su distribución, ecología y relación con la parte continental. Entre Octubre de 2010 y Junio de 2011 se realizaron recolectas de estados inmaduros y adultos en cinco quebradas del sector oriental de la isla, con ayuda de redes entomológicas, trampas Malaise y de luz blanca y negra. Se registran nueve órdenes, 28 familias, 39 géneros y 16 especies. Por primera vez se reportan la familia Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) y los géneros: Zelusia, Farrodes y Terpides (Ephemeroptera), Leucotrichia y Wormaldia (Trichoptera), Laccodytes, Neoelmis y Pheneps (Coleoptera), Maruina y Limonia (Diptera). Se encontraron cuatro especies nuevas de Ephemeroptera y cuatro de Plecoptera, en proceso de descripción. Además, Leptohyphes jodiannae, L. maculatus y Hagenulopsis esmeralda son primeras citas para Colombia. Farrodes caribbianus, F. roundsi, Hagenulopsis zunigae, Zelusia principalis y Anacroneuria choco, reportadas para el país, amplían su rango de distribución para el PNN Gorgona. La riqueza de familias, géneros y especies es alta y se considera una extensión de la fauna de corrientes hídricas de bajo y mediano orden del trópico continental, particularmente en la provincia del Chocó biogeográfico.

ABSTRACT

This work aimed to study the structure of functional groups of entomofauna associated to aquatic macrophytes in Correntoso river, Rio Negro sub-region, Pantanal, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. Six samples were taken in different seasonal periods; ebb, dry and wet. The organisms were collected using D net (300 µm mesh), sweeping five times through the roots of macrophyte banks at each sample session. Three environments were compared (open, intermediary, close) using data from six collection sites, through which were analyzed absolute abundance, observed richness of families and the sampled specimens were also separated in functional groups. A total of 60 families from 12 orders of Insecta were registered, totaling 19,773 sampled insects. The largest number of families was categorized into predators functional group, with 34 families collected, followed by the collectors with 17, shredders-herbivores ten and scrapers eight.


Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a estrutura dos grupos funcionais da entomofauna associada às macrófitas aquáticas em um trecho do rio Correntoso, Pantanal do Negro, Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Foram realizadas seis campanhas de coleta em diferentes períodos sazonais: vazante, seca e cheia. Os organismos foram coletados utilizando rede D com malha de 300 µm e esforço amostral de cinco lances de rede nas raízes dos bancos de macrófitas. Foram comparados três ambientes (aberto, intermediário e fechado), por junção dos dados obtidos de seis sítios de coleta. Foi analisada a abundância absoluta, a riqueza observada de famílias e realizada a separação dos insetos coletados por grupos funcionais. Foram registradas 60 famílias pertencentes a doze ordens da Classe Insecta (Hexapoda), totalizando 19.773 indivíduos coletados. O maior número de famílias foi categorizada ao grupo funcional dos predadores com 34 famílias coletadas, seguido dos coletores 17, fragmentadores-herbívoros dez e raspadores oito.

ABSTRACT

En este estudio se aborda la diversidad de hexápodos Entognatha a Polyneoptera de Colombia en términos del número de familias y especies, además del estado del arte en cada uno de los órdenes considerados e incluyendo referencias que son de relevancia para el estudio de la entomofauna colombiana. Se introduce la problemática de la valoración de la riqueza de especies de insectos en el país, desde las perspectivas histórica y del método taxonómico. Los valores en riqueza de especies, para cada grupo, se derivan de la diversidad conocida o del conocimiento de las especies formalmente descritas bajo los protocolos de la taxonomía. Para obtener la información se recurrió a literatura primaria, revisiones, monografías y catálogos impresos o en la red. Se registraron 14 órdenes, 80 familias y 1.673 especies en los grupos.


The present study examines insect diversity (Entognatha and Polyneoptera) in Colombia in terms of number of families, genera and species, in light of the most recent systematic data on the orders treated. We also highlight the work of active specialists and literature sources that are particularly relevant for the study of the Colombian entomofauna. We introduce the problem of evaluating species richness of insects in Colombia from historical and taxonomic-methodological perspectives. Species richness values for each group were derived from what is referred to as “known diversity” or knowledge of species that have been formally described in the taxonomic literature. Information was harvested from primary literature sources, reviews, monographs, and both online and printed catalogues. A total of 14 orders, 80 families and 1673 species are reported for the insects treated herein.

ABSTRACT

Este trabalho teve como objetivo pesquisar a estrutura da comunidade de insetos aquáticos, utilizando esta comunidade como indicadora da qualidade ambiental de um trecho do rio Correntoso, Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Foram realizadas seis campanhas de coleta em diferentes períodos sazonais: vazante, seca e cheia. Os organismos foram coletados utilizando rede D com malha de 300 m e esforço amostral de cinco lances de rede nas raízes dos bancos de macrófitas. Foram comparados três ambientes (aberto, intermediário e fechado), por junção dos dados obtidos de seis sítios de coleta. Foi analisada a riqueza, abundância absoluta e relativa das famílias de insetos amostrados e a avaliação da qualidade da água usando o índice BMWP, índice BMWP-ASPT, índice IBF e índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wienner, com log2. Foram registradas 60 famílias pertencentes a 12 ordens da Classe Insecta, totalizando 19.773 indivíduos coletados. Entre os índices aplicados, o índice BMWP foi o que melhor representou as condições do ambiente estudado.


This work aimed to research the aquatic insect community structure using this community as a bioindicator of the environmental quality in a stretch of the Correntoso river, in Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Six collections were taken in different seasonal periods; ebb, dry and wet. The organisms were collected using a 300 m mesh D net sweeping five times through the roots of macrophyte banks at each sample. Three environments were compared (open, intermediary, closed) by adding the information from six collection sites. Family richness, absolute and relative abundance of insect samples and an evaluation of water quality were analyzed by using the BMWP index, BMWP-ASPT index, IBF index and Shannon diversity index, with log2. A total of 60 families from 12 orders of Insecta Class were recorded, totaling 19,773 individuals. Among the indexes applied, the BMWP index was the one that best represented the conditions of the studied environment.

ABSTRACT

This work aimed ato research the distribution of insects associated with aquatic macrophytes and the similarity among collection sites during the reflux period in a stretch of Correntoso river, Pantanal do Negro, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The collection sites were determined by changes in the riparian formation structure, characterized as open when there is communication with flooded fields and intermediary and closed when there is not any communication with flooded fields. Three collections were taken at six sample sites, during reflux periods. The organisms were collected using a D net, 300 µm mesh, with samples from five nets thrown in roots of aquatic macrophytes. Family richness, absolute and relative abundance of the insects found, and similarity of collection sites were analyzed using Euclidian distance and complete connection, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, with log2. Sixty-four families from 10 orders of Hexapoda class were registered, totaling 2,525 individuals 2,405 of them aquatic and semi- aquatic, and 120 terrestrial. The collect sites did not present a fixed model of similarity, and the formation of groups occurred in distinct forms at each collection.


Este trabalho teve como objetivo pesquisar a distribuição de insetos associados a macrófitas aquáticas e a similaridade dos sítios de coleta, no período de vazante, em um trecho do rio Correntoso, Pantanal do Negro, Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Os sítios de coleta foram determinados conforme a mudança na estrutura da formação ripária, caracterizados como abertos com comunicação com campos inundáveis; intermediários sem comunicação com campos inundáveis; fechados sem comunicação com campos inundáveis. Foram realizadas três coletas durante o período de vazante, em seis sítios de coletas. Os organismos foram coletados utilizando rede D com malha de 300 µm e esforço amostral de cinco lances de rede em raízes de macrófitas aquáticas. Foi analisada a riqueza de famílias, a abundância absoluta e relativa dos insetos encontrados, a similaridade dos sítios de coleta por análise de agrupamento, utilizando distância euclidiana e ligação completa, índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wienner, com log2. Foram registradas 64 famílias de dez ordens da Classe Hexapoda, totalizando 2.525 indivíduos, 2.405 aquáticos e semi-aquáticos e 120 terrestres. Os sítios de coleta não apresentaram padrão fixo de similaridade, e a formação dos grupos ocorreu de forma distinta a cada coleta.

ABSTRACT

O objetivo do trabalho foi realizar o levantamento populacional e verificar a ocorrência de lepidópteros associados à cultura da mamona no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. O estudo populacional foi realizado em cultivos de mamona, cultivar "AL Guarany 2002", implantados na área experimental do Departamento de Solos da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, em Santa Maria, RS. A semeadura ocorreu na primeira quinzena do mês de novembro de 2006, em uma área de 0,3ha, aproximadamente. As avaliações semanais iniciaram aos 20 dias após a emergência das plantas e persistiram até a maturação das bagas, perfazendo um total de 15 avaliações, sendo as lagartas coletadas manualmente em 40 plantas aleatórias/data de avaliação. Os espécimens coletados foram levados ao Laboratório de Entomologia do DFS/UFSM, onde foram mantidos até a fase adulta. Spodoptera marima Schs. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) e Erinnyis ello L. (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) representaram um percentual de 15,2 e 28,3 por cento do total de lagartas coletadas, respectivamente. Assim, este estudo relata a primeira ocorrência dessas duas espécies de lepidópteros em associação à cultura da mamona no Rio Grande do Sul.


The aim of this research was to carry out the population survey and check an occurrence of lepidopterous associated to castor bean plantation in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The population study was performed in castor bean plantation, AL Guarany 2002 cultivate, implemented in the experimental area Soils Department at Federal University of Santa Maria, in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State. The sow occurred in the first fifteen days of november of 2006, in an area of around 0,3 ha. The weekly appraisement started 20 days after the emergency of the plants and went until their maturation, creating a total of 15 evaluations, being the caterpillars hand collected in 40 random plants/ date of evaluation. The collected samples were brought to the Laboratory of Entomology at DFS/ UFSM, where they were kept until adulthood. Spodoptera marima Schs. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and Erinnyis ello L. (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) represented for 15.2 and 28.3 percent of the amount of collected caterpillars, respectively. So, this study reports the first occurrence of these two lepidopterous species associated to castor bean plantation in Rio Grande do Sul State.

Se realizó un estudio de la entomofauna acuática de ocho quebradas del departamento del Quindío, Colombia en La Tebaida y Calarcá. Entre agosto y diciembre de 2004 se colectaron 1917 especimenes distribuidos así: Trichoptera con 524 (la familia más abundante fue Hydropsychidae con 425), Coleoptera 421 (Elmidae con 396 individuos), Heteroptera 391, Odonata 216, seguido por Ephemeroptera, Diptera y Neuroptera. Los índices ecológicos empleados fueron la diversidad de Shannon-Wiener, la riqueza total y la equidad de Pielou, los cuales arrojaron valores altos; la similitud de Jaccard para las quebradas La Tebaida y Calarcá fue de 0,66 evidenciando pocas variaciones en la entomofauna acuática. Mediante el análisis de las variables físicas y químicas se determinó que estas quebradas presentan un buen nivel de conservación.


A study of the aquatic entomologic fauna of eight streams from department of Quindío, Colombia in La Tebaida and Calarcá was carried out. During August to December of 2004, 1917 individuals were collected: Trichoptera with 524 specimens (Hydropsychidae with 425 was the most abundant family), Coleoptera with 421 (Elmidae with 396 individuals), Heteroptera 391, Odonata 216, followed by Ephemeroptera, Diptera and Neuroptera. The ecological indexes used were the Shannon-Wiener diversity, total richness and equity of Pielou which showed high values; the similitude of Jaccard for streams La Tebaida and Calarcá was 0,66 making evident few variations. Through an analysis of the chemical and physical variables good conservation level in this streams was determined.

Durante los meses de julio a septiembre de 2003, se realizó la caracterización de la entomofauna de importancia forense presente en la descomposición de dos cerdos (Sus scrofa), utilizados como sujeto de muestreo y control respectivamente, en la granja experimental de la Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (sede Consacá, Nariño). Los primeros insectos colonizadores del cadáver fueron las familias Calliphoridae y Sarcophagidae (Diptera); de la primera se capturaron individuos pertenecientes a Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann 1819), Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart 1843), Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann 1818) y Lucilia sp. siendo C. albiceps y Lucilia sp. las más abundantes durante el muestreo. Además de Diptera se presentaron algunas familias del orden Coleoptera, de los cuales los más importantes fueron: Histeridae, Staphilinidae, Silphidae, como depredadores, y Dermestidae como necrófago. Los otros grupos de insectos fueron observados ocasionalmente. Sin embargo, Labidus sp. subfamilia Ecitoninae (Formicidae), que se comportó como depredador de larvas de Diptera, estuvo presente durante todo el proceso de descomposición.


During July to September of 2003, characterization of entomofauna attracted by decomposition of two pigs (Sus scrofa) was carried out in the experimental farm of Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia at Consacá (Nariño). One of the two pigs was used as a control sample. Pioneer settler insects of carcass belonged to families Calliphoridae and Sarcophagidae (Diptera). From Calliphoridae individuals from Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann 1819), Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann 1818), Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart 1843) and Lucilia sp. were captured. C. albiceps and Lucilia sp. were the most abundant species. Families from Coleoptera order were also found: Histeridae, Staphilinidae, Silphidae, as predators, and Dermestidae as necrophagous. Other groups of insects were observed occasionaly. Nevertheless, as predators of Diptera grubs, individuals of Labidus sp. (Formicidae: subfamily Ecitoninae) were present during the entire decomposition process.
